Assassination of Charlie Kirk
On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He has now been confirmed deceased from his injuries. The shot was fired from a nearby building, approximately 200 yards away, and law enforcement agencies including the FBI and ATF are conducting a full investigation.
I have disagreed heavily with Charlie Kirk over the years, particularly on his views of Black Americans. However, he was an American exercising his First Amendment right to free speech. Providing those with the ability to convey their diverging opinions on a wide array of political topics. To meet words with bullets is not debate it is a horrific and gruesome violation of both democracy and the Constitution.
I vehemently oppose these actions and our country should be cognizant of the dangerous direction of political violence. I ask that all be vigilant if you see something happening, say something. It is imperative that we attenuate these forms of political violence, as they only erode and degrade the values of democracy.
